WordCamp Australia 2010

March 10th, 2010
Posted in WordCamp 2010

Hi All,

We’re in preliminary planning for WordCamp Australia 2010. If you’re interested in helping out, please get in touch with me (Anthony Cole – me [at] anthony [dot] geek.nz ) or Dan Milward (dan [at] instinct [dot] co.nz ). We’d love to hear from you.

It looks like the event will happen in Melbourne in the first weeks of December. Nothing is official yet, and we’re looking for space for the event in addition to sponsorship and what have you, so if you’re keen, we are too.

  1. This has come about because I’ve been chatting with a group of keen Ausie peeps that want to run a WordPress.

We’ve been talking about an early December date. Probably the first weekend.

The best way to get involved would be to join the mailing list here:

    At some point soon I’ll ask Jane from Automattic about getting us a new official WordCamp.org site setup. The benefits will be;

    1) staying close to core wordcamp scene
    2) ticket sales + badge creation etc…
    3) bbpress integration
    4) staying close to core!!!

That said I think that the involvement from Anthony and I should really be just enough to get you guys based in Ausie talking and working together. Its your WordCamp not ours – because of our location and previous experience setting up WordCamps I think we should pretty much be advisory only.

I made a blog post about it here too:

    Best,
    Dan

  4. Hey Dan!

We had/have a wordpress.org site and we gave it up because it wasn’t customisable enough.

If you want a bbPress forum here, I can do that, although it might be better to get BuddyPress working instead.

I’ve removed the 2008 conference ad from the top of the front page as well.

The wiki is still here, although it’s a little stale. If you want to have a groupthink approach then you might want to use it like the UK WordCamp uses theirs.

  5. Count me in to help out however possible.

  6. Sounds great to me.

I can probably help out a with organising a few things here and there.

I have joined the google group.

  7. Cool, I’m looking forward to helping too. I’ll join the Google group for it now.

Thanks for taking the initiative to get things moving Dan. :)

  8. I’ve joined the google group and am pretty active in the Sydney web scene, and an organiser of webblast here. Not sure how I can help but would definitely like to participate and help spruik the event, having attended the sydney one in 2008 and enjoying it immensely. you may also know me as @wheelyweb. Plenty of Syd wordpress people aren’t aware of it yet so I’d like to make sure it is widely known.

  9. I’ve also joined the Google Group (but was unable to post to it). I’d like to be involved. I’m from Melbourne – myself and another person can network to see what we can do. Please let me know!

  10. I have joined the Google Group and with Joe want to help spread the word in the Sydney area.

Happy to start catching up with other fellow Sydney WordPress’ers to plan the migration to Melbourne and work out what we can do to help out.
